Where has it gone? It has flown by so fast and so much happened my head is spinning. The corn harvest came, went, was huge and delicious. What members didn’t take and eat was sold at the farmers market and as we still had corn we gave at least 5 feed bags to our local senior citizens center, Salvation Army, Servalution(free medical clinic and food pantry) and CCM(Food pantry in Middlesboro,ky). The last field was picked by LMU students getting a Community service experience during orientation. What Fun!!!Then there were our potatoes-best potatoes ever!
Edging our gorgeous flower row while okra is harvested behind it.The okra harvest has been and continues to be super. It’s a good seller at the farmer’s market. Our tomatoes have been pretty sad. I think it’s so hot that they are just cooking and rotting on the vine. I’m hoping if it ever cools down we will get another good run of them. Unlike all of you complaining about all the rain we’ve just barely gotten enough to get by. It’s hard to tell for sure but it looks like we are going to have a good crop of pumpkins and squash. The vines are grateful for less rain thus less bacterial wilts and other problems.

The Bond family took all kinds of vegetables and canned goods to the Bell county fair and won lots of ribbons! We are so proud of them!
We’ve started fall crops in the greenhouses, raised beds and the in ground garden. They are popping up OK and I just hope they don’t succumb to the 90’s we’ve been having. We are really hoping to do well with the winter gardening techniques Preston Jones turned us on to in the winter gardening workshop by Cathy Rehmeyer, PhD, author of “Garden Under Cover: Low Tunnel Winter Vegetable Production” and the gardening blog, “Mother of a Hubbard.” Thanks to you Preston for having that great workshop.
