We love eating popcorn from the farm!

And we’re not alone in our adoration for this whole grain. The national Popcorn Board (yes, this really exists) estimates each person in our nation consumes 41 quarts of popcorn every year!

When air-popped or stove-popped with just a little oil, the snack is a nutritional powerhouse. Popcorn offers lots of fiber, protein, vitamins, and antioxidants. It’s an affordable food that goes a long way, too. Just on ounce of kernels yields a full quart of popped corn!

But even devotees like us can get a little bored with plain popcorn. That’s why we like to try out-of-the-box recipes that are a little more healthy than butter. Well, most of them! 🙂

These are links to a few of our favorites, and a couple we’re looking forward to making soon:

Perfect Popcorn Seasoning Recipe” from Whole New Mom features parsley, thyme, and sage.

Chili and Garlic Popcorn” from myrecipes includes chili and chipotle powder for a super spicy treat.

Rosemary Parmesan Popcorn” from Taste Love and Nourish uses fresh rosemary, grated cheese, and a touch of lemon. Tip: It’s yummy without the cheese, too.

Apple Pie Spiced Popcorn” from PBS comes with a fun recipe worksheet for kids to follow.

Old-Fashion Pink Popcorn” sounds like popcorn coated in cotton candy, and the comments on the recipe are filled with wonderful childhood memories.

Do you have a favorite popcorn seasoning or coating? Share a link to the recipe in the comments. We’d really like to try it.

Bonus: If you’ve made it to the end of our corny post, we have a treat for you! Check out the magic of popcorn in this slow motion video.
