Tonight we had our first workshop at the Tree Streets Community Garden in Johnson City! Lexy and I demonstrated how to trellis peas, sow carrots, transplant brassicas, and answer questions for our future market gardeners!
Rain has been our biggest enemy starting up — we had to reschedule our Tuesday workshop to this evening and still have a few plots that need to be tilled. But all is well; our families are very gung-ho on getting their gardens operational. I had a wonderful time sowing with our families and getting to know our participants. I was fueled with motivation after hearing their genuine anticipation and eagerness to learn. This is going to be a fun year.
As someone who worked with Grow Appalachia last year for Grow Your Own, it is amusing to see the similarities between how workshops function. I have to admit, it was a bit surreal to conduct my own workshop without Deni present, but I learned from the best!
I can’t wait to see everyone’s garden up-and-running by the end of the month.
Cheers! And happy planting my fellow Appalachians!
