–BEA SIAS, GROW APPALACHIA LOGAN, WV.
Logan County has been getting started no matter what the weatherman says. This season Vicky Browning has joined the team to help make our second season a bountiful event.
We have ordered and received our Greenhouse, but old man winter is still going strong down here in Southern West Virginia.
We have met with Big Ugly and worked on ordering our starting materials, including lights, soil, containers and equipment. We are figuring out our last (hopefully) frost dates and trying to determine when our first plants need to be ready. We are still waiting for our Tiller to be delivered, when we get a building ready to store it. But, who wants to till in a foot and half of snow, except maybe Frosty. We have scheduled our first growers PLANNING MEETING for March 14th. We had to cancel our first meeting due to the snow.
We feel like local celebrities, after our local radio station interviewed myself and Vicky about the Grow Appalachia Programs and benefits to our community members. The phones have been ringing off the hook with new individuals wishing to participate in the program.
With the New Farmers Markets, we are planning and other activities to go along with the Markets, our growers just might earn themselves a little extra money.
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEASON 2015.
