This is Lexy from Build It Up East TN with some pictures from the beautiful community garden at Whispering Meadows!
Here’s a shot of the garden in full production!
The tomatoes are starting to wear out from the recent damp weather, but they are still heavily producing! We’ll be pulling them up soon to make room for fall crops.
The kids wanted pumpkins to carve for Halloween, so the residents used a spare bed to put in two plants. They are taking over!
Great garden. I should have put my pumpkins straight into the ground like this, but I put them up on a raised bed. It dried out back in July, and I was gone, and I lost about half the squash and pumpkins.
It seems mother nature does best. I have had this raised bed a long time, and I thought it had plenty moisture, but no, it has to be watered.
I did harvest six kakai pumpkins, which have the green seed without hulls. You do not eat the pumpkin, just the seeds.
