My fellow Appalachians,

This past Thursday, Grow Your Own was able to participate in our final workshop partnership with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and were able to show off the great work we are doing.  Alice, one of our most successful participants, and a Damascus local, was able to make it out and gave an emotional story on how GYO has helped her.  After our presentation, we were able to go outside and seed veggies.

Alice gives her testimony on GYO Planting veggie transplants!

All in attendance were given a small pot, soil, and seed (lettuce, pea, or spinach) and were able to take their freshly planted green home!  Afterward we hiked the Southbound AT and enjoyed the beautiful day come to a close.

I ran the final numbers for July last week and our participants brought in 4,000 pounds of combined produce harvested – that’s up a thousand from June!

I want to personally thank my fellow VISTA, and friend, Brady Adcock, for allowing us to partner with the ATC and for the honorarium given to help fuel our program even farther!
