Dorothy Feltner reporting in.

Lotts Creek Community School has harvested and distributed fresh, delicious goodies from the School Garden and Jeff’s garden. Our haul, which included peas, green beans, and corn were given out at the food pantry to supplement the usual commodities we give out. The purpose of this is two-fold.: people get some good stuff and it stimulates a desire for it. I’m hoping this will lead to more high-need people growing their own food through our program, which consequentially will increase food security in the area.

We are preparing both Jeff’s garden and the School Garden for fall/winter crops to continue providing fresh food for people into the early winter. Siberian kale is in their future!

I met with the local NRCS agent who seemed very excited for our site. He will help us find more funding to build a high tunnel and get us in touch with soil health resources. Next week we will be celebrating with Hindman Settlement School, who is hosting a G.A. Potluck. I’m very excited to join them and see local food in action!
