We are blessed here at the Alderson Community Food Hub to have a very hard working, passionate (and compassionate) summer intern!

Catherine Goggins, a proud Hokie, studies Civic Agriculture and Spanish at Virginia Tech. She is growing food for two of our site’s community gardens (ACFH and Alderson Hospitality House), and will help lead a kid’s gardening program in conjunction with Energy Express (a summer reading program at Alderson Elementary School) and AES gardens (also supported by Grow Appalachia).

Catherine sells plants (and soon produce) at the Alderson Community Market to raise money for the gardens, hosts work days with volunteers, nurtures the Food Hub’s relationships with valuable community partners, and calmly and enthusiastically tackles a plethora of garden challenges (infrastructure, weeds, pests, etc.).

As if that weren’t enough, Catherine is also working to develop a production plan for the Food Hub and participating producers (including Grow Appalachia participants).

We hope to feature the fruits of her labor and more photographs in future posts. Stay tuned, and thanks for reading!
