WestCare is a licensed outpatient substance abuse program. The program contained three components: a cognitive behavioral treatment model, life skills training, and a community service component.
In the community service component of the program, individuals are assigned to work in a two acre garden on property provided by Christian Worship Center. Clients began the program with little to no knowledge of the gardening process. Clients have been tilling the garden since mid- April; we didn’t hire anyone to plow this year.
Clients were so excited when we arrived at the garden on Monday morning. Their hard work had paid off. The green beans had shot out of the ground and now we look forward to having a big mess of green beans. The cabbage is beautiful in our high tunnel. We are all looking forward to a big meal in a few weeks.
