Spring is finally here and after a long winter the folks in Breathitt County are eager to get outside and start their gardens. So over the last few weeks we have been busy getting our 30 families ready to plant. We started the planting season off with a meeting for all of our families on March 25th. At this meeting our families received onion sets, seed potatoes, and broccoli to plant. Along with receiving the plants our families were informed of the proper way to plant and care for them. Our next task for preparing to plant was to get soil samples for each family.  Once this was accomplished we delivered lime and fertilizer to our families.

The real work began with the tilling of all of our families gardens. We are blessed to have a nice tractor to help with this so it’s not too hard on our backs. This is a great benefit to our families, as purchasing a tiller would keep a lot of them from being able to garden.

Our families have started to plant they’re gardens. They have they’re onions, potatoes, and broccoli in the ground. In a few weeks we will be having another meeting with our families and they will get tomatoes plants.
