View of the beautiful Greenbrier River from the pedestrian bridge in Alderson

Hello from the Alderson Community Food Hub in Alderson, West Virginia! Grateful for the hope and opportunity Grow Appalachia brings to our community, we welcome the program with open arms.

The Alderson Community Food Hub is a non-profit, community-minded organization. Our mission is to connect everyone from producers to consumers, provide access to nutritious food, and cultivate participation in and awareness of sustainable food systems in the Greenbrier Valley.

In addition to Grow Appalachia, we manage a seasonal market, a local and regional co-op grocer, a community garden, and farm-to-school programming. You can find out more about us at www.aldersonfoodhub.org.

As a seedling Grow Appalachia site, we have been busy distributing and reviewing applications, identifying resources, making connections, poring over seed catalogs, and learning from our friends up the river at High Rocks Grow Appalachia.

With our recruitment process well underway, we are pleased to report that a number of folks have come to us inquiring about Grow Appalachia. This means the word has gotten out and it’s spreading, and that’s worth something around here! We are also pleased to announce that our most recent participant recruits include Alderson Elementary School and Alderson Hospitality House, two very valuable community partners who will be huge assets to the program.

Although we are enjoying the wintry weather (despite frozen whiskers and eyelashes), we can’t help but catch ourselves dreaming and scheming of spring in the valley, and of all the good gardening and community building to come. We look forward to our first year as a Grow Appalachia site, and to sharing with/learning from you all along the way.
