We are getting ready for another great year here in Laurel Co. This picture is familiar to some of you.
It’s a first for others. The weather isn”t cooperating very well right now. So things have been a little slow. Plowing and getting our ground ready,
has become a challenge. With the rain and snow, it’s really put us indoors the last month. We haven’t got a whole lot, just enough to stop us from
digging in the dirt. We have been fortunate enough to get a start on the Community Garden.
This is the ground where our Community garden will be. Our plan is to have a variety of yummy fruits, and vegetables here like, Squash, Zucchini, Cucumber, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Corn, Potatoes, Green Beans, banana Peppers, Bell Peppers, Chili Peppers, Cayenne Peppers, and Jalepina Peppers. I’m sure that there is more, but everyone gets the idea. The food we grow here will be distributed to our local Nursing Home, and the Assisted Living Village. We will also give to some elderly throughout the community that are not able to grow their own. I get great enjoyment out of this, it just lights up there eyes and brings smiles to people’s faces. It makes me feel good, knowing that someone appreciates and can eat healthy from our program.
These are our rain barrels. They sit along the side of our Community Garden. The London City Fire Department fill them with water for us to
have on hand during the planting process , and throughout the season in case of drought or little rain later in the year. Our participants decided
that we needed to make them pretty, so a couple of groups got together and decorated them.
They look cute!!!
🙂
I saw these last July when we came to meet John Paul. Do you have a problem with mosquitoes??
No, we do not have a problem with mosquitoes. I’m sure that over time, if the water is not used them might become a problem. But so far we have not had this problem. U can add a teaspoon or two of bleach to your barrel of water and see if helps keep the mosquitoes away…
