Heather here.

So is 2013. The first twelfth of it is almost over, in fact.

Our seeds have arrived and flats have been seeded.  83 flats so far…

Bright Lights Chard

Tyee Spinach

Rainbow Lacinato Kale

Winterbore Curled Kale

Walla Walla Sweet Onion

Copra Onion

Snowball Cauliflower

Gypsy Broccoli

Vienna Kohlrabi

Tendersweet Cabbage

Cumin, Lavender, Borage, Thyme, Marjoram, Sage, Chamomile

And some beneficial companion flowers, to be showcased at a later date.

Next week will be lettuces and more greens, and cuttings of rosemary, and more watering and dreaming, dreaming and watering, dreaming of water, dreaming of seeds…

Some texts we are utilizing to inform our 2013 season: The New Organic Grower by Eliot Coleman, Stella Natura Biodynamic Planting Calender, The Old Farmer’s Almanac, and The Victory Garden Cookbook.

The cookbook is great as in addition to recipes for each garden vegetable, including lesser-known but none-the-less worthy candidates such as kohlrabi, it also features metrics on how many plants the average family needs,  vegetable prep tips, what 1 c or so on of various vegetables prepared in various ways cooks down to…giving you a way to estimate how many jars or freezer bags your harvest will fill once processed.

More info on our foray into studying the place of the stars and the birthplace of it all to be reported.

We have 10 of 30 spaces left to fill…10 homes left to fill with plants…and food.
