High Tunnel Services & Organic Growing Supplies

Water Catchment & Drip Irrigation Installations
We sell a variety of high tunnel water catchment & irrigation materials, design functional systems, and provide installation services. All of our installations and materials meet NRCS standards. We can also consult on and install small-scale field irrigation systems.
The History of Our Social Enterprise
In 2011 – 2012, Grow Appalachia began developing and installing scale-appropriate high tunnels in central Appalachia to help families grow food year-round using our own funding. Over the next couple of years, we learned about the resources available through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and NRCS learned about Grow Appalachia. This partnership provided a new pathway for growers in the region to access financial resources that support the installation of a high tunnel on their farm.

Due to continued demand and the new source of funding, Grow Appalachia established the Social Enterprise program. The Social Enterprise program focused primarily on high tunnels during these early years, because there weren’t many companies selling high tunnel kits, and high tunnel installation crews were non-existent. Grow Appalachia filled that gap in access for the region.

As of 2025 Grow Appalachia has manufactured and installed over 180 high tunnels. With great effort and reservation, at the end of 2025 we decided to cease manufacturing and installing high tunnels as part of the Social Enterprise. We see that the gaps we noticed in the early years have been filled by other high tunnel installation crews. We do not see our role as being a competitor in this work but rather as an educator.

Additional High Tunnel Components

30% Shade Cloth
- Protects crops from summertime heat & sun exposure, which can negatively impact fruit production on crops like tomatoes and lead to early bolting
- 30% shade cloth (which allows 70% light transmission) is the most common shade cloth percentage for vegetable production
- Can be attached with wiggle wire along the hip boards OR using shade cloth clip-its and rope attached to eye bolts along the baseboards (see our Growing Supplies catalog)
