Hello Grow Appalachia Friends,
October has been another busy month for us! Since our last blog we have prepared the majority of the garden for season extension and spring. Paul Mitchell the School Cincinnati’s Green Team planted a wide variety of Beets, Carrots, and Lettuce Greens.
The garden also had its first Paul Mitchell Focus Salon volunteer in the garden, Jim Brofft’s Salon Central, also located in Over-the-Rhine. Three stylists and Future Professionals from Paul Mitchell the School Cincinnati built a new retaining wall with donated materials and harvested the sweet potatoes rows located in the elders section of the garden.
Carrots, turnips and beets that survived the summer heat under the shade of the Mammouth Sunflowers. The food was pulled and eaten up very quickly.
Sunflowers were also cut down and some seeds were harvested too. Add a little seasalt to the seeds and enjoy!
We are looking forward to November! Stay tuned for more updates. Garden onward friends!!
What beautiful carrots!! 🙂
