As the growing season winds down, we can’t help but smile looking back at what an incredible year it’s been for our Grow Appalachia families here at the Scott Christian Care Center. More than 85 home gardeners took part in this year’s program.
From early spring seed-starting classes to late-summer canning workshops, our calendar was full of learning, laughter, and shared meals. Participants joined in hands-on sessions about soil health, natural pest control, food preservation, and cooking with fresh produce. Many told us of how well their garden did, thanks to the support and encouragement of our Grow Appalachia community.
This fall, our team made home visits to celebrate the harvests, and hear the stories of our amazing Gardners. Beyond the produce, what grows in our program is connection, between families, across generations, and throughout our county. Gardening teaches us patience, hope, and the joy of sharing, and those are harvests that last long after the season ends.
We’re deeply grateful to Grow Appalachia for their continued partnership and support, and to every participant who put their heart and hands into the soil this year. Together, we’re growing more than gardens. We are growing community.

This is such a beautiful harvest photo! Thanks for sharing, Lisa.
