My name is Amelia and I am 8 years old.  I have been coming with mommy to the gardening program for two years.  We have had a garden for three or four years.  My favorite thing in the garden is my tomatoes! I like to eat them with salt, pepper, and basil.  I help in the garden by weeding, picking green beans, and planting.  I planted strawberries and asparagus.

I like going to the gardening program to learn and to spend time with my mommy.  This year I learned that worms don’t have noses.  We have a worm bin and we use the worm poop in our garden.  The soil soaks it up. It fertilizes the soil.

I also learned how to ferment food. You put the food in a brine and put the lid on it.  You let it set out to ferment.  I tried a fermented carrot stick.  We made fermented pickles.  Fermented foods are good for your tummy.

It is important for kids to garden so they can have a garden when they grow up. You can grow food instead of wasting your money to buy food. It is fun to garden.
