This month, dear farmer, artist, and chef friends brought to Cowan Community Center a wonderful natural dyeing and dance workshop.  Sponsored by a grant from Kentucky Rural Urban Exchange, a program that focuses on strengthening relationships among Kentuckians from all backgrounds, this all-day workshop brought together 3 KY RUX alumni – Robin Verson, farmer and natural dyer, Kyra Higgins, Flag Dancer and Appalshop Media Fellow, and Jenny Williams, local foodie and chef. Together, these three filled a day full of learning the in’s and out’s of natural dyeing, specifically with marigolds and indigo, the movements of flag dancing, and gathering together over delicious, locally sourced meals. It felt like an entire day of celebration of the joy and wonder that is sparked when a group of us comes together to learn what the other one knows, and give it a try ourselves!
