Hello All,

Well, I am so happy to say that I am back again this year! I will be working again this summer as the Union County Community Garden Coalition intern. I am pleased to introduce you to Mrs. Mrs. Nancy Federico. She has taken on Brad’s position as he recently moved back to Wisconsin. She has stepped up into his place and is doing a fabulous job!

I am excited to tell you that we have many garden sites again this year throughout our community. We have gardens at Sturgis senior citizens center, Sturgis Presbyterian Church, Union County Middle School, Morganfield Methodist Church, Dunbar Heights Apartments, Morganfield Senior Citizens Center, Job Corps Academy, Breckenridge Place Assisted Living, Whispering Meadows Methodist Church, and Moffit Lake. We also have 4 individuals that have garden sites at their home and we are helping them learn about growing their own food while guiding them through the gardening process.

Nancy and I are in full swing trying to get all of our locations taken care of. We are busy getting beds planted while trying to maintain the beds that we’ve already got planted. Our gardens are looking good despite getting off to a late start. We are all eager to begin harvests and are looking forward to a bountiful harvest this year. We have a beautiful herb bed at the Sturgis Presbyterian Church where we have been harvesting some fresh basil, cilantro, and dill. We have also had some great broccoli from the Morganfield Methodist Church. Nancy and I are working hard to get all of our sites planted. We are doing successive planting in our gardens this year in hopes to make for a better harvest.

We can’t wait to see what this year has in store for the community gardens and we are so excited that they are all coming together very nicely. We are so excited for our plants to start producing so the community can enjoy some fresh produce.

Hope to see y’all in the gardens,
Alexandria Hancock
